I am Attila Tóth, founder and instructor of Krav Maga Újbuda. I have been training Krav Maga since 2009 and teaching it since 2014, and I graduated from the University of Physical Education in Budapest as a recreation organizer and health promoter. In my classes you learn self-defense that works in a real situation, and you progress safely, in a good atmosphere.
How I found Krav Maga
Sport has been part of my life since childhood: I went to a primary school specialized in sports and played football, and then in secondary school judo turned my attention to combat sports. I came across Krav Maga in 2009, and after the very first class I knew this was what I had been looking for: simple, quick to learn, and built on reality rather than on rules. After five years of practice, in 2014 I completed the civilian instructor course led by senior Israeli instructors of Krav Maga Global, and became an instructor after passing the exam.

I have kept practising ever since so that my knowledge stays sharp, and I test regularly: I reached Expert 1 in 2017 and Expert 2 in 2019, and meanwhile completed KMG's Combat & Fighting and Kids and Teens instructor courses. To see fighting from other angles too, I have trained in kettlebell, wrestling, boxing, Inosanto kali and knife fighting, and I hold instructor qualifications in several weapon systems (kali, karambit, knife and stick fighting). What makes it into our classes is what fits the logic of Krav Maga and really works. I keep my instructor knowledge up to date at KMG's update courses; in the photo above Eyal Yanilov, the founder of Krav Maga Global, hands over the certificate of the instructor update course in November 2024.
Between 2017 and 2019 I taught Self-Defense and Intervention Tactics as a guest teacher in the law-enforcement classes of a Budapest vocational school, so I have prepared not only civilians but also future law-enforcement officers.
How we train
- Safety first. Thorough warm-up, gradual progress, self-control and protective gear. You progress fast if you do not get injured; I wrote about this in detail in Safety in Krav Maga class.
- Real situations. We prepare for the street, not for competition: defenses against punches and kicks, releases from grabs, multiple attackers, knife and stick threats, in more and more realistic scenarios.
- Everyone at their own level. Beginners and advanced students practise in one group, but everyone gets tasks that match their own knowledge. I use the methodology I learned at the University of Physical Education to make your progress safe and measurable.
- Good atmosphere, good community. In class we teach each other, we do not fight against each other. Many students have been with us for years, and most of them started as complete beginners.
Krav Maga Újbuda
I founded the club in 2014. It is a member of the international organization Krav Maga Global: the curriculum, the level system and the exams follow KMG's official system. We train in our own matted gym in the Barázda Center, in the 11th district of Budapest.
We hold adult group classes from Monday to Thursday in the evenings, and private training at times arranged individually, taught in English. The adult group is open to anyone from the age of 15, with no previous training or special fitness; you will find women and men, twenty- and fifty-year-olds alike. Group classes run in Hungarian, and I or one of the students translate for you. The schedule shows the upcoming classes and the price list the prices.
If you have a question about self-defense, Krav Maga or my classes, get in touch, I am happy to answer in English. Best of all, come to a free class and try it: you can sign up here. I wrote a separate page about what to expect in your first class.
See you in class!
Attila Tóth
